I don’t mean to be crass or uncaring, but I cannot get excited about the release of Sarah Shourd from an Iranian prison. I am happy that she is free and do wish her two male companions would be free and back in the United States as well, though. The problem I have had from the beginning and a question that no one seems to want to ask Sarah or others is why in the Hell did they choose to “hike” on the border of Iraq and Iran in the first place. I can think of literally thousands of other places on the planet that would have been better choices. It is almost like they had a death wish.

Any American citizen who chooses to be any where near Iran in today’s world and who is not in the military has either been smoking something or needs to have his/her head examined. What were they thinking? On the other hand, maybe they were spying. Any one ever think of that? What other even wildly logical reason would there be for being where they were. There are only two reasons: spying or stupid. They claim stupid.

About Kent Blacklidge Ph.D.

As one of a newspaper family who owned a 34,000 daily newspaper in the heart of the Midwest for 85 years, I have a deep belief in a strong “Fourth Estate”, the press. Without a diligent, truthful, and assertive free press, the power would be taken from the people. People have the absolute right to know. After earning a degree in Industrial Management from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue, I spent over 20 years in newspaper management with several as publisher. I also hold three graduate science degrees including a Ph.D.. I have a passionate interest in science, the environment, government, and politics. I have very little tolerance for ignorance and stupidity.
